Install on Windows
Run the installer and start working, plus the unverified-publisher notice and platform capability differences.
The Klaus desktop app is distributed on Windows as an installer and requires x64 architecture and Windows 10 or later. The currently released version number and size are authoritative on the download page.
- Get the installer from the download page.
- Double-click it and complete the installation. The installer currently has no Authenticode publisher signature, so the system will warn that the source is unverified; confirm it comes from klaus-ai.cn and continue. Integrity is not lost because of this: the installer and the update policy themselves are signed with Minisign, and an update that fails signature verification cannot be installed. Windows simply cannot tell you "who this publisher is".
- Klaus opens straight into the workspace; no sign-in is needed. Connect your own subscription or a custom API key under "Settings → Models", then pick a project directory to get started. A Klaus account is only needed for cross-device features such as friend collaboration, phone pairing and feedback.
Differences from macOS:
- The "Settings → System Permissions" page covers macOS TCC permissions and does not appear at all on Windows (rather than opening to a single "not supported" line).
- Computer Use is available on both, but relies on different system capabilities: macOS uses Accessibility plus Screen Capture, while Windows uses UI Automation plus Desktop Duplication to grab frames. The system-level preparation differs on each side.
- Demo recording (you perform the task once so it can be written into a skill) is currently macOS only.
- Choose the approval policy and sandbox mode under "Settings → Configuration". Command isolation is enforced by the implementation for the operating system.
When the Windows sandbox needs preparation or an update, a prompt appears above the composer. Initial preparation requests administrator access; if it fails and a non-administrator mode is available, the prompt offers that option. Updating the sandbox preserves the existing permission selection. While preparation or an update is required, chats temporarily use a read-only policy. This temporary state does not overwrite each chat's saved permission selection.
Klaus Cli is available on Windows as well. It installs to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Klaus\bin; see Install Klaus Cli.
